Backroads to Belonging

3.5 stars

For this assignment, I created a short documentary called Backroads to Belonging. The documentary explores my hometown and the people, places, and experiences that have shaped my sense of identity and community. Through a combination of personal footage, photographs, interviews, and narration, I wanted to tell the story of what makes my hometown meaningful to me and to the people who live there.

Creating this documentary gave me the opportunity to look at my hometown from a different perspective. While it is easy to take familiar places for granted, this project helped me appreciate the history, traditions, and relationships that contribute to a sense of belonging. Interviewing community members and revisiting important locations reminded me that a hometown is more than just a place on a map—it is a collection of memories, experiences, and connections. This project also strengthened my storytelling, filming, and editing skills by challenging me to combine visuals, audio, and research into a cohesive narrative.
