HOW I BECOME LESS STRESSED: DISTRESS & COLOR

The Destress & Color!! assignment requires you to color images in a coloring app and then upload your completed designs. 3 stars

When life gets busy, I often look for small ways to relax and take a break from screens, assignments, and everyday stress. For this design assignment, I decided to explore digital coloring pages because they remind me of the coloring books I enjoyed when I was younger. Instead of focusing on creating something perfect, coloring allows me to slow down and enjoy the process. I selected four different images that each gave me a chance to experiment with color, creativity, and mood.

The first image features a woman in an elegant blue dress. I chose shades of blue because the color is often associated with calmness and confidence. The second image is a galaxy-inspired rose filled with bright purples, pinks, and yellows. Coloring this flower was my favorite part of the project because the vibrant colors felt imaginative and uplifting. The third image shows two people in a dramatic close-up portrait. I focused on natural skin tones while making the green eyes and ring stand out as dominant visual elements. Finally, I colored a mandala using soft greens, blues, purples, and yellows. The repeating patterns and symmetry made the process feel almost meditative.

This assignment reminded me that design is not always about creating something entirely new. Sometimes design can be about interacting with existing artwork and making creative choices through color. Each image created a different mood, but together they demonstrated how color influences emotion and visual communication. The activity helped me de-stress while also thinking about design principles such as balance, contrast, emphasis, and harmony. It was a simple but effective reminder that creativity can be both productive and relaxing, especially when I am at work and it is not busy 🙂
